Tryout Update

Players and families –

Wednesday 8/23 1pm: With a little fortune from the winds, we will be able to have our third and final day of tryouts today. As kids have been told, we will have two sessions: 4-6 for younger players, 6-8 for the invited players. Rosters will be posted on this site at 9pm tonight. Good Luck to our 75 girls trying out.

Monday 8/21 10:45 Update – The weather has changed and the Air Quality has improved – we are going to be out on the Stadium field until the smoke comes in. Don’t forget your shin guards, socks and cleats. This will apply to all sessions today.

Please join our Smoke Updates Remind by sending a text to 81010 with the message @23gso Coach Braman will use this system to update with changes to location or times.

Monday, 8/21 9amUpdate – DESPITE THE UNFORTUNATE WORDING OF THE FINAL FORMS UPDATE YOU JUST RECEIVED… Today’s tryout is still happening. We are still going to have a session today, August 21st, but we are moving indoors. 9am

11-1 Returning Players (10:30 sign-in) New Players 1-3 (12:30 sign-in)

PLEASE BRING RUNNING SHOES or soccer flats for indoor work. We will do a few things with the ball, but will mostly focus on fitness. Please bring water.

Looking ahead: We will have sessions each day regardless of smoke. The air quality index will dictate the location (indoors/outdoors) and intensity of our sessions, but please assume that we’ll go each day at previously published times (see previous posts regarding tryouts).

As for tryouts, we will have cuts after we have seen players play at least one full session on the field. At this point, I have no idea when teams will be selected. (8/21 9am). Braman

Here’s what was written last night:

Thank you up front for your patience as we try to juggle two important priorities: Player Safety and Eligibility. We will work our hardest to get players eligible by getting practices in, but (obviously) we care first and foremost about the health and wellness of our athletes. And, yes, we are still trying to run a tryout. Please join us in showing resilience in the face of adversity.

With player safety and eligibility in mind, you should assume that you will have a session tomorrow and that the times will be the same as previously posted: 11-1 for returning players and 1-3 for players new to our program. Please arrive a half hour early to get checked in.

If the air quality index allows, we will be on the Stadium field. IF NOT, we will move inside and get in some work indoors. THIS MEANS YOU MUST ALSO BRING SOME SORT OF INDOOR SHOE either an indoor soccer shoe (that won’t mark the gym floor) or a running shoe. Any other sort of flats would work if they provide you support. IF we are forced inside, our primary focus will be on player flexibility, core strength, and cardio. We may work in the gym or weight room.

Obviously, a series of indoor sessions is not the sort of ‘tryout’ that helps coaches learn the technical and tactical strengths of soccer players. The coaching staff is hopeful that we have at least a few hours to evaluate and sort players based on their work on the field. But we shall have to see. We may have to extend our tryouts beyond Wednesday.

Our Tuesday session is very much up in the air. We will work to have two sessions that day: 4-6 with younger players and 6-8 with older ones. Players who do well in the first session may be invited to stay for the second one. IF smoke allows, we will be in the Stadium. If not, we will be indoors during the same times.
